Lowe hails Bury character after dramatic comeback against MK Dons

Delighted Bury boss Ryan Lowe saluted his team’s character as they hauled themselves back from a 3-1 deficit to beat promotion rivals MK Dons 4-3.

The Shakers were 3-1 behind with just 17 minutes to go, but goals from Dom Telford, Danny Mayor and Nicky Adams turned the game on its head in the most dramatic of fashions.

The victory helped the hosts leap-frog the Dons into second place in the table, and Lowe was delighted.

He said: “That was an entertaining game wasn’t it? The fans of both sides definitely got value for money today, and credit to our lads for the way they’ve come back like that.

“We showed brilliant character once again. That’s something they’ve been showing me all season and I can’t fault any one of them.

“We saw two teams out there who were really going for the three points. Both sides were creating chance and chance, but we had that attitude, desire and total commitment that you need to get a result in that manner.

“To be honest, once we got one goal back to make it 3-2, I fancied we might do it. I would have settled for a draw at that point.

“We then got a third pretty much straight away, and I fancied us big time. Maybe it was a bit fortunate the winning goal, but that’s luck we deserve.

“The players have shown resilience in bundles. They just don’t want to be beaten, and that’s brilliant for me.”

The Dons went in front after nine minutes when defender Jordan Moore-Taylor rose highest to head home Jordan Houghton’s corner.

Three minutes later, Shakers midfielder Jay O’Shea missed from the spot before making amends shortly after, only for the Dons to retake the lead through Dean Lewington.

The Dons went 3-1 up in the 52nd minute when Bury defender Chris Stokes headed into his own net.

Dom Telford began the Bury fightback before Danny Mayor notched the sixth goal of a breath-taking game, drilling home from 15 yards and Adams completed the remarkable turnaround that left Tisdale contemplating a third defeat in five.

“We’re gutted, absolutely gutted,” he said. “I feel totally different to the game at Northampton because it was a very different game. It was end-to-end from start to finish, and there were loads of goals in the game. I always felt we could score another.

“We’ll have to go away and decide whether we’re going dig into those things. There were goals in that game today.

“It was a brilliant game of football. We’re all terribly disappointed. Bury are a good team, with good creative players.

“It feels different to the other disappointments we’ve had, because we had control. I cannot comment on the goals in details because I can’t quite see them.

“But I’m gutted for the supporters too. We have to march on. We’ve got to see what we did so well today. It wasn’t a disaster of a performance, but a disaster of a result.”
