Real Madrid step up chase for Tottenham's Christian Eriksen

Real Madrid's poor form
Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid for Juventus they have struggled to replace him.
Madrid's over-reliance on Ronaldo has become increasingly clear as the season has gone on.
It is also evident Madrid have not replaced Ronaldo by the fact that he would finish their top scorer for 2018 despite leaving for Juventus over the summer.

After failing to replace Ronaldo Madrid's form has taken a nose dive and they currently sit 5th in La Liga.
They are also 10 points off league leaders Barcelona and their last game saw Madrid lose 2-0 at home to Real Sociedad.
After losing to Sociedad, Madrid's Luka Modric has called on his side to take more responsibility for their poor form:
"We are out there on the field and we have to do better to have more concentration. We can't keep cocking up like this in every game.
"I think that we all have to be self-critical. We have to speak clearly and say it how it is. We can't see we did well and just didn't have luck.
"The ball isn't going in and we have to see why. There are reasons why we are bad and you have to see what they are. We all have to take more responsibility."

Madrid make contact over Eriksen
Given Madrid's poor form, it is no surprise they are said to be in the transfer market for some much-needed additions to their squad.
According to the Independent, Real Madrid have begun proceedings to try and sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham.

Eriksen has played 251 games for Tottenham, in which he has scored 62 and assisted 78.
Eriksen's contract with Spurs is due to expire in July of 2020.
Spurs are said to have offered Eriksen somewhere in the region of £200,000-£250,000 per week.
However, the midfielder has reportedly rejected the offers as his motivation for considering leaving Tottenham is not financial.
