Ryan Lowe hails Bury’s performance at Yeovil as ‘probably one of the best’

Bury manager Ryan Lowe was delighted with his team’s performance as they beat struggling Yeovil 1-0 in Sky Bet League Two.

Nicky Maynard’s 25th-minute goal was enough to seal all three points and move the Shakers into the automatic promotion places.

“The performance in the first half was very good. I think it’s probably one of the best we’ve played away from home,” Lowe said.

“The ball retention, passing through the thirds, through the lines, creating chances, picking second balls up was very, very good.

“You’re never going to have that for the full 90 minutes. Yeovil came out second half and gave it a go. They were pumping balls long and trying to affect us but we withstood that.

“The first half was a good footballing performance, the second half was a good team performance.

“We thrive on creating chances and scoring goals. I think we’re the top scorers in League Two. We want to create, put balls in the box and score goals.

“We work on it and it’s the type of football I want to play as a manager.

“A couple of people have said as we’re coming off the pitch that we’re a terrific footballing team and that’s what we want to be known as. But also to be known as a winning team.

“A clean sheet, a goal, three points away from home, happy days.”

Yeovil fans called for manager Darren Way to walk away after the Glovers stretched their winless run in the league to 10 games, but the 39-year-old is adamant he can turn thinngs around at Huish Park.

“It’s hard. I still believe the players are giving everything. Where we are in the table adds pressure but the margins in the game were very small,” said Way.

“Bury have gone third in the table but we ran them close and if we keep working hard them I’m convinced the results will come for us.

“I was disappointed with their goal because we didn’t react quickly enough but apart from that we were never really in danger of conceding.

“It was small margins today against a team with a lot more experience and we just need to try to find that little bit of extra know how.

“It’s important the players keep believing because our objective is to remain in the Football League and I know we are equipped to do that.

“The fans have been calling for me to go but the challenge here is extremely difficult and I’ve never failed in terms of keeping us in the league.

“I’m the manager and I will take the pressure, that’s what happens when you are on a run like this and I will keep doing all I can to keep turning this around and we will get it right.”
