Lowe delighted with Bury’s second half performance

Delighted Bury manager Ryan Lowe admitted that a few stern words at half-time worked wonders as his side roared to a 3-1 win against Crewe.

The Shakers were a goal behind at the interval, but a terrific second-half effort helped secured a well-deserved maximum points haul in the end.

Lowe said: “In the first half we just weren’t at it for whatever reason.

“Crewe are a good side, and they’ve had their tails up of late as they were in good form with two wins on the spin.

“We tried to get going in the first half, but it was difficult.

“At half-time we changed a few things around and they’ve worked, clearly.

“We needed to get our wing-backs further up the pitch, and just play everything a little further up the pitch.

“I also had a few words with the players, and some views were expressed amongst the lads themselves, and at the end of the game we’ve got a great result.

“I’ve said it before this season that we have got some great characters in the squad. This squad is second to none as far as I’m concerned.

“Once we started playing our way and stepped it up in the second half, there was only going to be one winner.”

Crewe stunned Bury with a well-taken goal – only their fourth on the road all season – early on through Chris Porter.

Caolan Lavery and two goals from Jay O’Shea – including one from the penalty spot, turned the game on its head.

Crewe boss David Artell was frustrated after his side’s mini-revival of back-to-back wins was ended comprehensively in the end.

Artell said: “Everything was looking so positive at half-time. I thought we looked reasonably comfortable and had contained Bury.

“We were matching them for the most part, but when you switch off a little bit, like we did early in that second period, games can soon change.

“Before that, there had been a few genuine opportunities where we just failed to slip someone in.

“We need to be that bit more ruthless so it can become comfortable for us.

“We have the firepower, the creativity and the players to do that, so it just has to be about trying to produce that end product.

“We all know how good the form can be, we just have to work hard to try and replicate some of our recent good form as we head into the new year.”
