Yeovil boss Way insists he will battle on despite fans calling for him to go

Darren Way insists he will continue to focus on his job as Yeovil fans called for his exit following a goalless draw with Tranmere.

Tranmere’s play-off push suffered a setback as they were held by struggling Yeovil Town for the second time this season.

Rovers saw 18-goal top scorer James Norwood denied by a brilliant save from Town keeper Stuart Nelson in stoppage time as the hosts pressed for a winner.

Despite earning a point towards their relegation battle, frustrated Yeovil fans called for manager Darren Way’s head at the final whistle.

But after a run of eight games without a win in League Two, Way focused on the positives of holding on at Prenton Park.

He said: “Every game I’m seeing improvements to our concentration levels and our lads battle hard and showed real bite in the tackle.

“It shows the lads are really battling and giving everything and really care about this football club.

“We deserved at least a point and probably had the better chances to claim all three today if you look at the game as a whole.

“Our defending was brilliant to keep a clean sheet along with our goalkeeper and that would sometimes win you the game.

“We need to add a bit more belief in forward areas and then we can get the goals to turn draws like this into victories.

“Maintaining our league status is more important than anything and I’ve got huge belief in these players to do that.

“I heard fans chanting for me to go after the game but I’ve had it before and the football club is the most important thing. I’ll continue my job and continue to be professional.”

After seeing his team draw a blank against Yeovil yet again, Rovers boss Micky Mellon cut a frustrated figure.

He said: “We had our fair shares of chances. We never found a passing rhythm but we had the chances that would have changed the game if we’d scored them.

“It’s been a tough period and on a positive note we’ve kept a clean sheet and we’re on a little run that we can build on.

“They are a very determined side and they defended well and made it tough for us. They are well organised so when the opportunities come you have to take them.

“Their keeper made some good saves and with other chances we could have done better and showed a bit more composure and quality.”

The Glovers who spurned the best opportunity of the first half as Yoann Arquin shot straight at Davies from six yards just before the break when he looked certain to break the deadlock.

Yeovil’s top scorer Alex Fisher broke through with 10 minutes left by was denied by a brave stop from Rovers stopper Scott Davies, diving at his feet.

And in stoppage time Nelson dived low to his right to keep out a goalbound header from Norwood.
