Daniel Stendel delighted with Barnsley performance against Peterborough

Barnsley head coach Daniel Stendel was delighted with his side’s performance as they earned an important 2-0 win at home to promotion rivals Peterborough.
Barnsley took the lead through Alex Mowatt’s 25th-minute striker. Full-back Dimitri Cavare made a great run down the right-hand side before slotting a beautiful pass across to Mowatt, who calmly converted from six yards.
The hosts doubled their advantage four minutes after the restart when Woodrow hit a 30-yard piledriver over Peterborough goalkeeper Conor O’Malley and into the top corner.
Stendel said: “It was, for us, not so easy. The first game (reverse fixture) we win 4-0 and it was a great performance.
“Today we controlled the game and played at 100 per cent. It was a very good performance and I’m happy.
“It was a fantastic goal (from Woodrow) it wasn’t just the goal though, it was a very good performance from him – the best he’s played for Barnsley.
“His development’s been so good in the last few weeks and we’re very happy with him.
“In my opinion it was not a penalty, but I’m not sure, I’m a little bit far from the incident, I was a little bit surprised the striker got a yellow card. The referee is nearer to the ball, he can see a lot better than we can from the bench.
“I think it was a difficult decision, but I don’t think it’s the reason we win this game or why Peterborough lose this game.”
Peterborough manager Steve Evans said: “They’ve had little periods of play without causing us any danger and we’ve had periods of play without causing them any danger.
“Then we get a good break and Mark O’Hara goes into the box and gets fouled, the referee decides to wave play on. That happens, our players switch off and they score a goal.
“We’ve gone in at half-time, changed the system a bit, went a bit more adventurous. But we’ve given him (Cauley Woodrow) too much time to cut inside and fire a shot, but in fairness to the kid he fires a shot and it’s a fantastic goal. Conor’s (O’Malley) got no chance.
“We’ve not got a penalty at one end, where it’s a clear penalty and then watch Ivan Toney get brought down.
“I’m really annoyed today. We’ve lost because of a good performance from Barnsley so credit to them, but there’s been an absolute shocking, horror performance from the referee.”
