Pinnock lifts AFC Wimbledon from foot of League One table after Plymouth win

Mitch Pinnock stepped off the bench to deliver AFC Wimbledon a priceless 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Plymouth.
Dons substitute Pinnock took advantage of Yann Songo’o’s poor backpass in the 75th minute as Wally Downes’ side moved off the bottom of the table with Argyle taking their place.
It looked like a day to remember for the visitors when midfielder David Fox opened the scoring in the 23th minute with a spectacular volley, but Wimbledon levelled within nine minutes through Anthony Wordsworth.
After a lacklustre opening 20 minutes both sides served up a couple of eye-catching moments to spark the match into life.
Fox opened the scoring with a dipping first-time volley from 30 yards which drifted over the stranded Tom King.
The Dons equalised with another spectacular effort when Pinnock’s half-cleared cross dropped onto Wordsworth’s left-foot and flew in to the right corner.
The visitors took control of the game and looked the most likely to score but Songo’o soft backpass left Matt Macey stranded as Pinnock lifted the ball over the goalkeeper’s head and into the empty net to earn Wimbledon all three points.
