The 37-year-old had been heavily linked with a return to his former side AC Milan.

Gennaro Gattuso's men had been desperate to bolster their attacking options and saw their former marksman as a short-term fix to their problems.

And they were reportedly set to offer him a lucrative £3.5m-a-year to secure his services.

Ibra quit Milan in 2012 to join the Paris Saint-Germain revolution six years ago.

In his two years at the club, the Swede scored 56 goals and won the Scudetto before making his switch to Ligue 1.

He then joined Manchester United as one of Jose Mourinho’s first signings in 2016 - helping the club win the League Cup and Europa League.

But his debut season was cut short with a serious knee injury and he struggled to force his way back into the side before leaving for the MLS in March.

And his dominance in the game stretched across the Atlantic this term after netting 22 goals in 27 appearances for the white and gold outfit.

He even scored the MLS goal of the year with his first ever strike for the club - netting a spectacular volley from 40 yards.

However, there were reports the footballing superstar was disappointed his side did not make the play-offs and he was ready to quit.

SunSport reported his high-rolling agent Mino Raiola spent four hours in discussion over his lucrative return to Italy.

And Galaxy fans have expressed their delight that their veteran has pledged his future for another year to push for the play-offs.

One fan wrote: "Zlatan wants to win the Title. #KING"

While another said:“The MLZ”. #Zlatan"
