Dundee United miss chance to close the gap at the top

Third-placed Dundee United failed to close the gap on the leaders as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Inverness.
Table-topping Ayr drew 3-3 at second-placed Ross County, but the Tangerines could only take a point themselves.
Inverness scored from the first noteworthy chance of the game in the 18th minute as Tom Walsh neatly converted Liam Polworth’s through pass.
Only a brilliant save from Mark Ridgers prevented Pavol Safranko from powering home an equaliser in the 28th minute as Dundee United hit back.
And Ridgers tipped over a shot from Matty Smith that looked destined for the top corner before the break.
Chances were at a premium in the second half until the visitors levelled in the 76th minute through Billy King’s low drive.
King had the best chance to win the game but his shot flew inches wide.
