League One’s leading scorer Tom Eaves helped Gillingham come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against in-form Wycombe Wanderers at Priestfield.
Experienced defender Adam El-Abd volleyed home the Chairboys’ opener after 12 minutes, spectacularly firing past Gills goalkeeper Tomas Holy after the hosts failed to clear a Wycombe corner.
Nathan Tyson doubled the visitors’ advantage five minutes later with a powerful drive from 12 yards for his first goal of the season.
Loanee Fred Onyedinma’s shot almost looped over Holy thanks to a deflection before Tyson wasted a golden opportunity to seal his side’s victory as he shot at the goalkeeper when through on goal.
However, Eaves slotted past Stephen Henderson after latching onto Dean Parrett’s free-kick to start the comeback before the hour mark. It was the striker’s 15th goal of the season in all competitions.
Former AFC Wimbledon midfielder Parrett then set up the hosts’ equaliser, as Josh Parker powerfully headed past a stranded Henderson to make it 2-2 with 14 minutes remaining.
Holy produced a fingertip save to keep out substitute Randell Williams’ curling effort in stoppage time to deny Wycombe their eighth win in 11 league games.
