John Akinde penalty enough as Lincoln edge Stevenage

John Akinde’s penalty proved enough as high-flying Lincoln returned to winning ways by edging Stevenage 1-0.
The Imps had drawn their last two league games, but Danny Cowley’s men managed to hang on to secure the points on the road.
Akinde was hauled over inside the box before stepping up to convert from the spot 11 minutes in despite goalkeeper Seny Dieng guessing the right way.
The powerful forward almost doubled his tally on the half-hour mark, striking into the side netting after breaking clear from his defender.
Lincoln had goalkeeper Grant Smith to thank after he made a string of fine saves, including a diving effort to keep out Ben Kennedy’s free-kick.
Stevenage created plenty of chances, with Danny Newton squandering a great chance on the hour when he fired a half-volley over.
Smith was tested again seven minutes from time as he kept out Scott Cuthbert’s header after the defender rose highest from a well-worked set-piece routine.
And right at the death he tipped over Joel Byrom’s free-kick before saving another Cuthbert header from the resulting corner.
