Edinburgh City stay top after beating Annan

Edinburgh City remain two points clear at the top of Scottish League Two after edging Annan 2-1 at Galabank.

A close-range header just before half-time from Edinburgh defender Conrad Balatoni was all that separated the two sides at the break.

Liam Henderson doubled their lead 11 minutes into the second half before Scott Hooper reduced the deficit for Annan.

Peterhead continue the chase in second thanks to a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Berwick at Shielfield Park.

Jack Leitch opened the scoring for Peterhead just two minutes in and top scorer Rory McAllister slotted Leitch’s assist into the bottom corner 11 minutes later for his ninth league goal of the season.

Jason Brown’s header 10 minutes before the break made it 3-0 to the visitors and Russell McLean added a fourth for his second goal in two games before Jamie Stevenson added the gloss.

Clyde and Cowdenbeath shared the spoils from a 1-1 draw at Central Park as John Rankin picked out the top corner to put the hosts ahead after 17 minutes before Jordan Allan pegged them back seven minutes after the break.

Brian Cameron and Elgin top scorer Shane Sutherland scored a brace apiece as City recorded a 4-2 victory over Albion Rovers at Borough Briggs to move up to fourth.

The home side went ahead after 28 minutes through Cameron but were soon pegged back – two minutes later – by Graham Gracie’s close-range leveller before Sutherland headed his side into a narrow lead just before the break.

Sutherland completed his double after 56 minutes, while Cameron added the fourth on the hour before Gracie reduced the deficit with a late second for Albion.

Elsewhere, Queen’s Park ended a four-match losing streak in all competitions as they held on for a point from a 1-1 draw at home to Stirling.

Lewis Hawke handed the hosts the lead before Darren L Smith equalised eight minutes before the break, while the home side lost Gerry McLauchlan to a second booking at the death.
