Neymar quit Barcelona for PSG over a year ago, choosing to pursue a new challenge in Ligue 1 after growing frustrated at performing in the shadow of Lionel Messi.
Over a year on from that move, though, and the Brazil international has been tipped to leave with Real Madrid and Barcelona themselves both emerging as frontrunners in the race for the player’s signature.
However, fresh reports claim Manchester United tried to hijack Neymar’s move to PSG with Mourinho personally getting involved.
It is an open secret that the United manager believes his squad is in sore need of improving.
He has not hid his frustration at Marcus Rashford’s failure to regularly finish his chances.
And Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez have all struggled for consistency.
The Daily Record say that, in the summer where Neymar left Barcelona, Mourinho sounded him out over a transfer.
However, the Red Devils appeared hesitant due to the overall cost of the transfer.

Neymar earns wages in the region of £537,000, some publications have claimed.
And United were also reluctant to match the 26-year-old’s huge £200million price tag.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have been tentatively linked with a move for Neymar amid uncertainty over the player’s long-term future.
But it appears United, should the Brazilian press ahead to leave, will not be pursuing a deal.
