Darren Moore: International break helped West Brom iron out issues

Darren Moore welcomed West Brom’s 2-1 win at Swansea and believes the Baggies have solved the problems which threatened to derail their season.

Albion lost three times in four games last month to slip off the pace at the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

But their Liberty Stadium victory – secured by first-half headers from centre-backs Craig Dawson and Ahmed Hegazi – was their third on the bounce and took them to within three points of leaders Norwich.

“It’s learning and developing as you go along,” Moore said after West Brom had moved into fourth spot.

“Looking back at that bad run, there were things we needed to be better at and I like to think we’ve ironed out one or two things.

“The international break has allowed us to do that.

“It’s pleasing to get the third win, but we keep chalking them off one by one.

“It’s just about approaching every game and trying to win matches.”

Swansea had taken a 10th-minute lead through Oli McBurnie’s eighth goal of the season.

But Albion’s obvious tactic of exposing Swansea at set-pieces directed to the far post paid off in handsome fashion.

Dawson and Hegazi both profited from such situations before half-time, and Albion managed the game superbly in the second period.

“Being a former defender I’m pleased with the goals,” Moore said.

“It was an area of the pitch we felt we might exploit. But you need the right delivery, timing of the runs and the contact on the ball.

“Those three ingredients we got spot on to get the goals.

“Matty’s (Phillips) delivery was spot on, and Craig and Ahmed’s aerial ability is a strong point to their game.”

Swansea were beaten 4-1 at home by Norwich on Saturday and have now lost three of their last four games.

The Swans have slipped 11th and are five points from the play-off places.

“We’ve lost two games against two good teams,” said manager Graham Potter.

“We were deservedly beaten on Saturday but our performance here was good.

“It’s hard to be really positive, but the performance was something to go forward with.

“We have to keep working in that way and respond on Saturday.”

On Swansea’s set-piece flaws, Potter said: “You’re never 100 per cent strong everywhere, you have to give somewhere.

“We normally defend that area better but we didn’t against a team who are strong in that area.

“It’s cost us dearly but we have to learn from it and do better.”
