Max Power escapes five-game ban and should face Barnsley

Max Power will feature in Sunderland’s side when they take on Barnsley after the Black Cats successfully appealed the player’s five-match ban.

Power was sent off for the third time this season in Saturday’s draw at Walsall and faced a long spell on the sidelines until he received the news that his appeal was upheld.

Boss Jack Ross is still expected to be without Lee Cattermole but Jerome Sinclair and Chris Maguire could push for starting places after returning to the bench on Saturday.

Dylan McGeouch is still out while Duncan Watmore is closing in on a comeback after spending over a year out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel could restore Cauley Woodrow to his starting line-up for the trip to the Stadium of Light.

Woodrow dropped to the bench for Saturday’s draw at Doncaster despite scoring two goals in two games – and responded by netting moments after taking to the pitch.

There is bad news for the Tykes after it was confirmed that winger Ryan Hedges will be out for at least four weeks with a broken toe.

But Zeki Fryers is set to be added to the matchday squad after completing his frustratingly slow recovery from a knee injury.
