Rutherford hat-trick steers Havant & Waterlooville past Maidstone

Alfie Rutherford scored a hat-trick as Havant leapfrogged Maidstone in the Vanarama National League table by beating their 10 men 5-2 at West Leigh Park.
Havant went ahead after 10 minutes through Rutherford. Elliott Romain’s subsequent dismissal following a set-to in front of the home dugout left Maidstone at a further disadvantage and Havant exploited that when debutant Jonah Ayunga fired in a debut goal.
It was 3-0 to Havant when Alex Bradley scored from distance and in the 64th minute Rutherford grabbed his second to confirm the outcome.
Jack Paxman then notched an apparent consolation for the improving Stones, and it was soon followed up by a goal from Blair Turgott that jangled the hosts’ nerves. Rutherford settled them with his third.
