Jose Mourinho sack EXCLUSIVE: Man Utd boss must ‘adapt’ to modern stars or face summer axe

JOSE MOURINHO faces the sack at the end of the season if he does not adapt his style of management at Manchester United.

That is the verdict of Arsenal legend and former Premier League star Ray Parlour.

The Portuguese boss has been under pressure in recent months at Old Trafford.

Mourinho was on the verge of the sack prior to Manchester United’s inspiring comeback against Newcastle in early October.

But the two-time Champions League winner earned himself a stay of execution and has recovered his situation since.

United’s pivotal win away to Juventus in Europe, though, was followed up by a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Manchester City last weekend.

His approach to man-management has always come under scrutiny, especially during his time at United with certain players.

Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly and £89m club-record signing Paul Pogba are just three of the most publicised cases in under three years at Old Trafford.

Parlour, who worked under Arsene Wenger for eight years at Arsenal, knows all about how to treat players at the top level.

But even he admits much has changed in the game in recent years with the money in football and influence of social media.

Discussing Mourinho’s methods of management, Parlour exclusively told Starsport: “Everybody’s got a different style.

"I think Man United knew exactly what they was going to get when they signed Mourinho - he’s a winner, you can’t deny his record of winning trophies.

"Players are maybe a little bit more different these days though.

"They’re run by agents, you’ve got social media, it’s a business outside of football now.

"So whether he’s got to adapt to that, I don’t know.

"It’s a situation where, he’s been in difficult situations before, and let’s see what happens with it.

"I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere until at least the summer, they’ll keep him for the whole season, and then maybe let’s see what happens.”

Mourinho’s United sit eighth during the international break and face struggling Crystal Palace next Saturday at home (3pm).

For now, the players appear onside with their manager, but certain individuals are far from settled such as Bailly.

And it remains to be seen how long the club will stick with Mourinho amid links this season to Zinedine Zidane.

Mourinho is contracted at United until 2020 after signing an extension earlier this year.
