Paul Tisdale refuses to get carried away after MK Dons move to League Two summit

MK Dons manager Paul Tisdale is refusing to get carried away just yet despite seeing his side move to the top of League Two after defeating struggling Macclesfield 2-0.

Tisdale’s men took full advantage of Lincoln City’s postponed game against Yeovil Town as Chuks Aneke and Kieran Agard scored the all-important goals.

Basement boys Macclesfield are now seven points from safety after their fourth-straight league defeat – and rarely looked like collecting anything against MK Dons.

Tisdale said: “I’m really pleased with the win. We knew it was going to be tough, so we’re delighted.

“It’s always tough when you come up against a team with real purpose like Macclesfield.

“We’re pleased to put this one to bed and come away with three vital points. We predicted it would come down to the second half. It was important we didn’t panic. We had to be patient and we finally got our goal.

“We’re only in November so we have to resist the temptation to get carried away. All this means is three points; our league position means nothing.

“We march on to the next game and three points there.”

The hosts had two goals disallowed in a goalless first half at stadium:mk, while Manchester United’s on-loan goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara made some fine saves to frustrate the hosts.

Eight minutes after the restart the hosts got their reward as Aneke fired home, while Agard got on the scoresheet in the 66th minute as he latched onto Alex Gilbey’s throughball before finishing well under pressure.

Macclesfield caretaker-manager Danny Whitaker said: “We held firm in the first half and we can take positives from that.

“We have to try and turn our run around. I think we’re getting there. The performances are improving we just need to change that into points.

“Kieran made some fantastic saves and he’s a real asset to have on loan.

“We need to keep working hard. That’s all you can do. There’s no magic formula. We have to put this result behind us and try to get back to winning ways.

“Hopefully once we do that we can build momentum and get on a run.”
