Woodrow and Moore fire 10-man Barnsley to victory

Barnsley made it four successive wins as they overcame promotion rivals Accrington 2-0 despite playing the final 25 minutes of a fiery encounter with a man less .

On-loan Fulham frontman Cauley Woodrow opened the scoring in the 36th minute, getting on the end of Kieffer Moore’s back heel and slotting the ball past Connor Ripley.

And top scorer Moore made it 10 for the season and sealed the win for Barnsley with late second, forcing the ball home after Ripley could only push a shot from Brad Potts into the air.

But the Tykes had to battle for almost half-an-hour with 10 men as defender Zeki Fryers was shown a red card after 64 minutes, having picked up a yellow in the first half.

It was only Stanley’s second home defeat of 2018 in front of a record attendance at the Wham Stadium of 4,801.

The Tykes were thankful to emergency loan keeper Jordan Smith, who was making his debut from Nottingham Forest, in the early stages as he kept out powerful strikes from Jordan Clark and Sean McConville.

However Barnsley grew into the game and Dimitri Cavare stung the hands of Ripley before Woodrow struck.

Fryers saw red after a foul on Callum Johnson and Barnsley fan Clark came close to levelling for Stanley just after. Howver, his effort was just wide and the Tykes made it safe with Moore’s goal four minutes into stoppage time.
