Wellens to take charge of Swindon for first time against Carlisle

Richie Wellens will take charge of Swindon for the first time when Carlisle visit the County Ground on Saturday.

It remains to be seen how the former Oldham boss, who succeeds Phil Brown after he was sacked last weekend, sets up his team but he has a few injury problems to contend with.

Midfielder Toumani Diagouraga is out for a month after he suffered a torn thigh muscle last week.

Leading scorer Michael Doughty has a nasty infection in his right foot, while striker Marc Richards has been nursing a thigh strain.

Carlisle will check on the fitness of midfielder George Glendon before they make the long journey south.

A knee injury forced the 23-year-old off early in the second half of the Checkatrade Trophy tie against Stoke Under-21s on Tuesday night.

Blues boss John Sheridan is still unsure about the availability of forward Hallam Hope, with Barbados in action this weekend.

Kelvin Etuhu’s hamstring injury looks like it will keep him on the sidelines for the rest of the month.
