Reece Lyon’s superb late goal gave Morton a 2-1 win Ladbrokes Championship over Queen of South at Palmerston.
Morton, who had conceded five goals at Ross County on Saturday, went close on 37 minutes when captain Jim McAlister’s goalbound half-volley was blocked.
The visitors did take the lead five minutes before half-time when Bob McHugh nodded in after Gregor Buchanan headed a free-kick back across the six-yard box.
Doonhamers keeper Alan Martin saved from Gary Oliver early in the second half, before at the other end, Josh Todd fired over on the hour.
The hosts were level on 65 minutes when Stephen Dobbie’s volley found its way past Morton keeper Derek Gaston and inside the post.
It looked to have been enough for a share of the points before 18-year-old midfielder Lyon produced a moment of brilliance with just six minutes left.
A long throw into the box saw the ball drop out to Lyon, who let it bounce before crashing a swerving effort back into the right-hand corner.
Lyon raced off to celebrate with the away fans – which saw him receive a yellow card on what was a memorable first senior start.
