Darren Way unhappy with Tranmere delaying tactics

Yeovil manager Darren Way was unhappy with some of the tactics used by Tranmere in their 0-0 Sky Bet League Two draw at Huish Park.

Neither goalkeeper was truly tested during the 90 minutes and the Glovers have now not won in six league outings.

“The players are frustrated because teams come here looking to delay our counter-attacks and I think they should have had one or two bookings for that in the first half,” Way said.

“We talked before the game about teams getting numbers behind the ball and they put one up front and make it difficult for us to break them down.

“Tranmere came here for a point and they are well organised and they’ve done that to a lot of teams this season.

“On the back of last season’s promotion they’ve got good belief and they stick together and they don’t make it easy.

“Our speed of play and tempo was a lot slower than I was looking for but I can’t fault the players’ passion and they played with heart and energy.

“Our forwards are trying to make things happen but we just didn’t have that quality required in front of goal today. Sometimes that happens and we need to keep working to make sure it improves.”

Tranmere boss Micky Mellon was pleased to make the long trip home with a point and admitted that neither side probably deserved to win the match.

“I think you’ve got to always respect the point on the road. A clean sheet is always important because that is the bottom line we look for,” Mellon said.

“It was a huffy and puffy game with a lot of stoppages. There was never any momentum in the game or any flow to it. We know that we can do things much better but fair play, they hung in and got us another point.

“When you’re playing with a holding midfielder you want to try and control the game and control possession so you allow people to get into dangerous areas and we weren’t really doing that. So we changed it around a bit and started the second half a little bit better.

“We tried everything we could to get a spark in it and we’ll probably come away and say we had the better chances, but all in all we’ll have to be honest and say neither team deserved to lose it and neither deserved to win it in the end.”
