Moyes, who has twice held jobs in England since being sacked by Manchester United in 2014, could be set to return to management.

Bruce was sacked by Aston Villa on Wednesday after a disappointing start to the new Championship campaign.

Thierry Henry has been talked up as a viable replacement for Bruce, who leaves just four months after Villa failed to get promoted via the playoffs.

But the Frenchman may be overlooked for the Championship role, if the bookies are to be believed.

Paddy Power have priced former Manchester United boss Moyes as the new 6/4 favourite to get the job.

He usurps Brentford manager Dean Smith as Villa’s top target with the bookmakers.

Smith and Paulo Fonseca sit at 9/2 to get the Villa job, with Henry out at 5/1.

Former Villa defender John Terry, who left the club this summer, is 9/1.

Moyes endured a miserable 10 months as manager of Manchester United.

He was the choice of legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson to take over at Old Trafford and ended an 11-year stint at Everton to take one of the biggest jobs in football.

But the Scot failed to rekindle the magic inspired by Ferguson and was axed once United could not secure Champions League football for the following season.

Moyes has since managed at Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham - but never for more than a year.

Were he to get the Villa post, it would likely be with a remit that they push for promotion this season.

Aston Villa endured financial problems over the summer after losing the playoff final to Fulham, and were bought out by Nassef Sawiris.

The decision to axe Bruce was made on Wednesday - a day after Villa drew 3-3 with Preston and the manager had a cabbage thrown at him by an irate fan.
