Ashley and Benitez met at the Rialtos restaurant in Ponteland.

According to reports, the pair spoke for over three hours in what's been described as a 'bonding' session.

News of Mike Ashley's sit-down with Rafa Benitez quickly spread on social media on Wednesday night.

As a result, a handful of Newcastle supporters turned up outside the restaurant to protest Ashley's ownership of the club.

When Ashley left the meeting, fans sung 'where's the money gone?' at the Magpies owner.

Did Ashley react badly to the protests?

A picture is now doing the rounds on Twitter of Ashley making the v-sign.

Supporters are accusing Ashley of swearing at them. However, according to reports from Ashley's camp, such accusations have been “strongly refuted”.
