Mansfield dominate but cannot find a way past Oldham

Oldham had to dig deep to earn a 0-0 Sky Bet League Two draw after a searching examination at Mansfield.

The Stags dominated the game and created a wealth of chances but failed to find a finish on the night just four days after hitting four past Northampton.

A totally one-sided first half saw Otis Khan turn a CJ Hamilton cross against the bar from six yards after just eight minutes.

Tyler Walker was then agonising inches wide when sent through by Danny Rose’s flick on 19 minutes.

Keeper Daniel Iversen then made three excellent saves to twice deny powerful near-post shots from Hamilton, coming in from the right, and a powerful Walker effort after Rose had won a loose ball as the half somehow ended goalless.

Early in the second half, the visitors at least had a couple of shots as Jose Baxter volleyed over and Rob Hunt shot inches wide.

For Mansfield, Mal Benning fired Will Atkinson’s far-post cross into the side-netting early in the half while, just before the end, Atkinson agonisingly sent a diving header wide from four yards from Craig Davies’ cross from the left.
