Joe Day set for Newport return

Newport expect to welcome back goalkeeper Joe Day for the visit of bottom-placed Macclesfield.

Day missed the 4-2 victory over Cambridge on Saturday with what were described as “personal reasons”.

Mark O’Brien suffered a hamstring in the win which took Newport into second place in Sky Bet League Two, and he misses out alongside the suspended Robbie Willmott.

Andrew Crofts (Achilles) and Matty Dolan (knee) are likely to be absent again, but Jamille Matt could start after scoring twice as a substitute against Cambridge.

Macclesfield are waiting on the fitness of veteran Danny Whittaker as the Silkmen go in search of a first league win.

The 37-year-old midfielder was forced off against Forest Green on Saturday after being on the wrong end of a heavy tackle.

Boss Mark Yates is unlikely to make too many changes after hailing the Forest Green draw as the “most complete performance of the season”.

Michael Rose completes a three-game ban for his red card at Morecambe last month.
