Ryan Lowe delighted with his Bury players after Colchester win

Bury boss Ryan Lowe was full of praise for his side after they claimed a 2-1 win at Colchester United.

Byron Moore rifled the Shakers ahead ten minutes before half-time from close range after Nicky Adams had latched onto Jay O’Shea’s pass and found him.

And Bury doubled their lead seven minutes after half-time through Chris Dagnall, who planted a left-foot shot inside the far post after being afforded space by the home defence.

Colchester pulled a goal back with eight minutes remaining through Luke Norris who converted from the spot after being fouled by Chris Stokes in the area, but Bury held out.

Lowe said: “We set out to get in their faces early doors and to go about them the way we wanted.
“The lads were very focused and I can’t praise the lads enough.

“With every individual I put in there, I want an individual performance and a team performance and I think I got both.

“I thought we were excellent.

“Colchester nearly scored a goal in the first half where if it had been Barcelona doing it with the interchange of passing, they’d have talked about it for weeks.

“They’re a good team and there’ll not be many teams who will come here and do that.

“We soaked up a bit of pressure towards the end after they scored their penalty which is to be expected.

“But John McGreal has got a good team and these fans will get behind them, so we wish them all the luck in the world from here.”

It was a difficult day for Colchester, who lost centre-back duo Frankie Kent and Tom Eastman to first-half injuries.

The hosts kept going and almost equalised at the death through substitute Brennan Dickenson but Bury claimed victory.

U’s boss John McGreal said: “We’ve lost two centre-halves – it’s tough but you have to commend the players for playing out of position, particularly in the second half.

“We threw everything at the players in the second half and I thought we put in a gritty, determined display.

“We haven’t got the result but even at 2-0, the game could have gone away from us quite easily.

“But we dug in, got a goal and very nearly got an equaliser.

“The players did it to the best of their ability and we nearly came away with a draw.

“When things go against you, a lot of teams feel sorry for themselves.

“But I think they should be proud of what they did and I think the fans appreciated it, especially the South Stand.

“We got the goal and (Luke) Norris gets himself into those areas with shots and if not shots, then penalties but it wasn’t to be.”
