MK Dons held at home by Tranmere despite early domination

MK Dons were made to pay for early missed chances as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 home draw against Tranmere.
Chuks Aneke drew the home side level on the stroke of half-time, cancelling out Jonny Smith’s opener, but they could not find a winner.
Rovers goalkeeper Scott Davies had a mixed first half, twice denying Rhys Healey during an early MK storm before gifting the hosts their equaliser.
Healey had three sights of goal within a hectic opening eight minutes, the last seeing fellow striker Aneke nod against the bar after Davies had denied him from close range.
Lee Nicholls denied Rovers’ leading scorer James Norwood, only for mith to roll the ball into the empty net to put Tranmere ahead in the 37th minute.
But Davies left Aneke with a similarly easy task to level the scores when he missed Dean Lewington’s looping cross.
The second period was more evenly contested, although the clearer chances fell the hosts’ way.
Aneke shot just wide and saw a close-range effort well-saved by Davies after a clever Healey flick.
Healey also forced Davies into another acrobatic stop whilst Adam Buxton similarly extended Nicholls at the other end.
