Lawrence Shankland scored twice as Ayr took top spot in the Ladbrokes Championship with a 2-0 win at struggling Alloa.
The Honest Men bounced back from their 5-0 loss to Queen of the South in their previous away game to take all three points against ninth-placed Alloa.
The first goal came in the 23rd minute, when Ayr midfielder Shankland hit a volley from the centre of the box into the bottom-right corner.
The 23-year-old midfielder also scored Ayr’s second goal in the 65 minute with a clever right-footed shot from a difficult angle into the opposite corner.
His two goals take his total for the season to 15 in all competitions and four in the Championship while Alloa’s loss leaves them on just three points after six games and they remain winless.
