Partick Thistle edge past Queen of the South in five-goal thriller

Partick Thistle moved ahead of Queen of the South in the table after they edged to victory in a 3-2 thriller against the Dumfries side in the Ladbrokes Championship.

In a game where all the goals came in the first half, the Jags scored three goals in just nine minutes to put the game past Queens at Firhill.

The visitors took the lead after just three minutes with in-form striker Stephen Dobbie getting his 21st goal of the season with a low shot that went past the keeper.

Kris Doolan equalised for Partick Thistle in the 31st minute with a left-footed shot from close range to beat goalkeeper Alan Martin.

Scores were not level for long, as just three minutes later Queen of the South regained their lead through Josh Todd who hit a left-footed shot from the middle of the box into the bottom corner to beat Cammy Bell.

Thistle equalised for a second time in the 39th minute after the ball fell to Blair Spittal following a goalmouth scramble, and the midfielder hit the ball high into the back of the net.

Spittal made it a brace just two minutes later with a stunning left-footed strike from 25 yards straight into the top corner, that left Martin with no chance.

The visitors came close to equalising in the second half with a header by number 25 Lyndon Dykes but it was tipped over the bar by Bell and despite late pressure were unable to draw level.
