Middlesbrough’s clash with Bolton is expected to come too soon for Rudy Gestede.
The striker is yet to feature for Boro this season having suffered an ankle problem in pre-season at Accrington, but is closing in on a return.
Danny Batth and Sam McQueen are still waiting for their first Boro appearance after joining on loan from Wolves and Southampton respectively in the summer.
Boro suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost 1-0 at Norwich on Saturday.
Bolton defender Stephen Darby has been forced to retire after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
The right-back, who began his career at his hometown club Liverpool, received the diagnosis from a specialist recently.
Bolton will be without Sammy Ameobi for up to six weeks after he suffered an ankle injury against QPR.
Yanic Wildschut, Will Buckley and Craig Noone can all replace him.
