Ryan Lowe salutes matchwinner Byron Moore

Bury manager Ryan Lowe saluted stand-in striker Byron Moore after his double led the Shakers to a 2-1 win at Swindon.

Moore scored his maiden goals since joining Bury from Bristol Rovers in the summer as Lowe’s men picked up their first away win of the season.

Delighted Lowe said: “I’m pleased for Byron Moore. He is not normally a striker but he can play there.

“He has had to wait for a chance but he has been great. The game management from the players is brilliant at the moment.

“We knew we would have large spells with the ball, and it was crucial to win the second balls – Danny Mayor has broken his nose from getting on the end of them.

“I’m pleased that the players are putting their bodies on the line, and things like a broken nose are part and parcel of that.”

Swindon could have fallen behind after only 20 seconds when Luke McCormick saved smartly from Chris Dagnall.

The hosts did not take note of that early warning and match-winner Moore put visitors Bury in front on 19 minutes with a fierce shot from six yards out after a mazy run into the box.

Defender Luke Woolfenden drew Swindon level five minutes after time, volleying home from close range from a Steven Alzate corner.

The Robins’ joy was shortlived as Moore restored Bury’s lead just six minutes later.

Danny Mayor slotted Moore through on goal and when his initial effort struck the post, the former Bristol Rovers was on hand to tuck in the rebound.

Bury survived seven minutes of injury time to hold out for the win.

The defeat was Swindon’s first home league loss of the season and manager Phil Brown laid the blame for the defeat firmly at his players’ doors.

Brown said: “It’s very difficult to explain why it was such a poor performance from us.

“They were a very experienced team, they looked as if they were comfortable playing on that surface, we didn’t make it difficult for them.

“With the ball we were poor and without the ball we were poor as well.

“I tried everything I possibly could from the touchline but it is too late when the manager has to make that many changes.

“When you’re making a change 30 minutes into a game and a change of system and so on. I can take blame for that.”
