Blair Henderson fires leaders Edinburgh City to victory against Annan

Blair Henderson kept up his hot scoring streak as Edinburgh City stayed top of Ladbrokes League Two.

The striker grabbed a clinical double against his former club Annan Athletic, whom he left in the summer, as Edinburgh beat the Galabankies 2-1 on Saturday.

Henderson tucked away the opener at Ainslie Park just before half-time and headed a second in the 80th minute for his seventh goal in the league already this term, before Ryan Sinnamon’s free-kick cut into Edinburgh’s lead.

Second-placed Peterhead sit just two points off the pace after a second-half revival saw them prevail 4-2 at Cowdenbeath.

Jason Talbot’s first goal for Cowdenbeath and Robbie Buchanan’s header had nudged the home team 2-1 ahead at the break, with Peterhead’s response coming from Michael Dunlop’s close-range shot.

But Derek Lyle, Rory McAllister and Willie Gibson led the charge with goals for Peterhead following the interval, and it was comfortable in the end for the Aberdeenshire side.

Elgin strolled to a 3-0 victory at Berwick Rangers, with Greg Morrison grabbing a double after Jordan Orru’s own goal.

Clyde were more dominant against Albion Rovers than their 1-0 victory margin suggested. The only goal came from Martin McNiff in the 20th minute but Clyde peppered their visitors’ goal for long stretches of the one-sided contest.

Queen’s Park were beaten 1-0 at Stirling Albion, with Ross McGeachie’s far-post header from a corner in the 12th minute eventually settling the contest.
