Kewell thrilled with Crawley’s fight in comeback win over Bury

Crawley head coach Harry Kewell felt his side`s dramatic 3-2 home victory over Bury was a fine example of how his new-look team want to improve.

Ollie Palmer`s fifth goal in five league games two minutes from time won it for the Reds after Bury roared back from going behind after only three minutes.

Skipper Jimmy Smith headed Crawley into an early lead, but goals from Chris Dagnall and substitute Danny Mayor put the Shakers in control.

But Panutche Camara came off the bench to level before former Lincoln striker Palmer gave Crawley their first home win since the middle of February.

Said former Leeds and Liverpool star Kewell:”I give my team full praise for the way they kept going.

“We are a good team that want to improve and get to the next level.

“It turned into an entertaining game, the fans are getting their moneys worth and it`s good to get the three points.”

Kewell admitted to being baffled at referee Craig Hicks` decision to disallow Filipe Morais` shot through offside on the advise of an assistant in the 20th minute.

The Australian said:”It was a brave decision but the wrong decision.

“But the turning point came when Camara came on. He showed energy and then Ollie won it for us.”

Bury have now won only one of their last 31 away league games and assistant manager Rob Kelly felt they threw the match away.

He complained:”In the first 45 minutes we weren`t really at it, but we should have got something out of the game.

“The club has gone through a difficult period in the last 12 months and winning football games is not easy. We must develop a new culture to win.”

Bury let slip the lead and lost 2-1 at Lincoln in mid-week, and Kelly was dismayed that two more late goals have proved costly.

He added:”We were in a winning position and we have to put it right. We definitely should have got something out of the game.

“The general feeling from the players is that we let down the fans and we threw it away.

“In the first 20 minutes we never got going but we hung on and got a decent reaction in the second half.”
