Dundee United down Partick Thistle

Dundee United made it three wins on the trot as Paul Watson’s brace helped them down Partick Thistle 3-1 in the Ladbrokes Championship.
United came into the match having beaten Queen of the South in the league last time out before a youthful Tangerines side then recovered from 2-0 down to defeat St Johnstone U21s in the Irn-Bru Cup.
And Csaba Laszlo’s men added another victory on Saturday thanks largely to defender Watson, who opened the scoring in the sixth minute when he headed home Fraser Aird’s cross.
Christoph Rabitsch and Adam Barton sought to increase United’s lead before Thistle rallied through second-half efforts from James Penrice and Blair Spittal, although neither managed to hit the target.
United added a second with 12 minutes to go when another header from Watson, this time from a Yannick Loemba corner, beat Cammy Bell and Craig Curran tapped in late on to make it 3-0.
There was still time for the visitors to net a consolation through Chris Erskine’s stoppage-time header, but the contest had already been decided.
