Barnsley rally to take a point off Scunthorpe

Barnsley fought back from two goals down to preserve their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-2 draw at managerless Scunthorpe.
The Iron – who sacked boss Nick Daws on Friday – drew first blood from the spot in the ninth minute, with Josh Morris stroking the ball inside keeper Adam Davies’ left-hand post after Andy Dales had been bundled over by Dimitri Cavare in the box.
In a first-half low on quality and goalmouth action, neither side was able to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
Six minutes after the break, the home side looked to have done just that when Cameron Burgess rose highest in a packed penalty area to meet George Thomas’ inviting free-kick and double their lead.
But Barnsley came roaring back, with two goals in the space of nine minutes dragging the visitors back onto level terms.
Kieffer Moore got the ball rolling with an hour gone, glancing a header into the far corner following Cavare’s excellent cross.
And having been provider for the Tykes’ first of the afternoon, Guadeloupe full-back Cavare turned scorer for the equaliser, curling home a stunning strike from 30 yards after cutting in from the left.
Both sides had chances to win it – Alex Mowatt driving over from range for the visitors before Scunthorpe’s Matty Lund fired wide after getting in behind the defence – but a point was a fair result.
