Matty Dolan effort enough as Newport edge Grimbsy

Newport County moved into the League Two play-off places with a 1-0 win over Grimsby Town at Rodney Parade.
A superb first-half free-kick from Matty Dolan was enough to secure Michael Flynn’s side all three points.
The hosts came close to making the perfect start when Padraig Amond was clean through on goal only for Alex Whitmore to track back and block his effort.
Grimsby’s best chance of the first half came when Whitmore’s header was cleared off the line by defender Fraser Franks.
Dolan put Flynn’s side into the lead with a powerful free-kick from 20 metres out to give the home side a 1-0 half-time lead.
Grimsby captain John Welsh was awarded a yellow card after a poorly judged tackle on Tyreeq Bakinson.
Visiting goalkeeper James McKeown was forced into a superb save when he tipped a header from Amond over the post.
The game turned into a nasty affair when Grimsby substitute Wes Thomas was sent off for a late tackle on Tyler Forbes in stoppage time.
