Pacesetters PSG still want signings – Thomas Tuchel

Paris St Germain host Angers on Saturday already sitting pretty at the top of Ligue 1 – but coach Thomas Tuchel is still targeting fresh blood before the end of the transfer window.

The defending champions completed their big-money move for Kylian Mbappe this summer and already boast the world’s most expensive player in Neymar.

Both have already played their part this season, Neymar equalising from the penalty spot at Guingamp last weekend before a brace from Mbappe sealed a 3-1 win.

The pair are likely to retain their places for the visit of Angers but Tuchel, who replaced Unai Emery at the Parc des Princes ahead of the new campaign, believes further signings could yet come in before the August 31 deadline.

“I hope the transfer window is not closed for us,” he told reporters on the eve of the Angers match.

“I hope because, in my opinion, we need players for the team in different positions.

“I gave the positions, I trust the club, I trust my sports director that he will find perfect solutions to be successful.”

A 3-0 win at home to Caen on the opening day of the season, coupled with the comeback win last weekend, means PSG top the early standings on goal difference.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Tuchel, however, still sees room for improvement in the coming weeks.

“Before Guingamp, we trained with a lot of intensity,” he added.

“This week there was a lot of intensity too. It’s normal that we are not ready and not cool during the match.

“We had a very good reaction against Guingamp – I really appreciated the reaction.

“After the international break, we will play every three days. It will not be possible to do intense training afterwards but I trust that we will improve.”

Angers have lost both of their opening Ligue 1 matches.

Stephane Moulin’s side were beaten 1-0 at Rennes last time out having started the season with a 4-3 home defeat at the hands of Nimes.

Now they face arguably their toughest test of the campaign, with Moulin wanting to see his players build on their narrow defeat last weekend.

“We must continue in the same way as at Rennes,” he said at his pre-match press conference

“Not the result but on the solidarity we showed – we must be at our best level to improve and we work on that.

“In Paris, it’s always a special match. Away from home they sometimes have some lack of concentration but at home it’s different, they have a duty in front of their supporters.”
