Arsenal have signed Bernd Leno to compete with Petr Cech between the sticks
The Colombia international, who featured at the World Cup in Russia, will spend the campaign in Naples after falling down the pecking order at the Emirates.
Arsenal signed Bernd Leno for £20m from Bayer Leverkusen to compete with Petr Cech between the sticks, making Ospina third choice.
New manager Unai Emery deemed the stopper surplus to requirements at the club, at least for this season.
The 29-year-old made 70 appearances for the Gunners since signing in 2014 from Nice.
Last season, he was predominantly used in the Europa League, making just five league appearances.
Arsenal said in a statement: “We would like to wish David the very best for the season.”
Napoli will reportedly pay £895,000 for the loan switch and have the possibility to sign Ospina permanently next summer for around £3.58m.
Arsenal have loaned David Ospina to Napoli
Having lost Pepe Reina to AC Milan, the Serie A club signed 21-year-old Alex Meret as a replacement, only for him to suffer a broken arm in training.
Elsewhere today at Arsenal, Joel Campbell joined Serie A side Frosinone Calcio on a permanent transfer after seven years at the club.
The 26-year-old made 40 first-team appearances for the Gunners but spent much of his time on loan.
Campbell spent time at Lorient, Olympiacos, Villarreal, Sporting Lisbon and had two spells with La Liga side Real Betis.
