Port Vale captain Tom Pope doubtful for Crawley clash

Port Vale skipper Tom Pope remains a doubt for Saturday’s League Two clash with Crawley.

The striker missed Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup first round defeat by Lincoln after suffering a back spasm during Saturday’s game at Colchester, although manager Neil Aspin is hopeful he will make it.

Louis Dodds took his place in midweek in one of three changes from the weekend with defenders Antony Kay and Leon Legge also drafted in.

Kay was making his first appearance of the season after being sent off in the penultimate game of the last campaign and he will hope to retain his place as the Valiants attempt to bounce back from successive defeats during which defensive errors have proved costly.

Crawley boss Harry Kewell will be without striker Dominic Poleon through suspension for the trip to Vale Park.

Poleon was sent off for two bookable offences after being introduced as a second-half substitute during Tuesday’s cup defeat at Bristol Rovers.

Midfielder Rob Milsom made his debut for the club in midweek and could be handed a league bow with his side having also lost its last two games.

Kewell made six changes for the game at the Memorial Stadium with Glenn Morris, Josh Payne, Dannie Bulman, Felipe Morais, Ollie Palmer and Poleon making way.
