Adam Rooney scored twice as Salford ended Halifax’s 100 per cent start to the Vanarama National League season with a 2-1 victory at the Peninsula Stadium.
The home side took the lead on 11 minutes when Rooney headed in a cross from midfielder Nick Haughton.
Salford goalkeeper Chris Neal then saved after winger Dayle Southwell had broken clear before a finger-tip stop just ahead of half-time prevented Jonathan Edwards equalising for the Shaymen, who had led the table.
After Salford defender Lois Maynard saw his effort come back off the crossbar and Danny Lloyd’s cross was pushed onto the post, Halifax equalised in the 73rd minute through a close-range effort from Matthew Kosylo.
Salford, though, secured all three points when Rooney knocked the ball in following a corner with seven minutes left.
