Port Vale captain Tom Pope could miss Lincoln clash

Port Vale skipper Tom Pope is a doubt for Tuesday night’s EFL Cup first round tie against Lincoln.
The striker suffered a back spasm after landing awkwardly during Saturday’s 2-0 League Two defeat at Colchester and could miss out, although manager Neil Aspin is confident the 32-year-old will be fit for the weekend if he does.
Should Pope be unavailable against the Imps, his place could be taken by Louis Dodds, who replaced him on Saturday, Scott Quigley or Idris Kanu.
Defender Antony Kay will be available for the first time this season after completing a three-match ban following his red card against Carlisle in April.
Lincoln boss Danny Cowley could hand a first start to new signing Jason Shackell after he made his debut as a substitute in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Swindon.
Fellow deadline day signing Joan Luque was not included in the 18 at the weekend and will hope he gets his chance this time around.
Matt Green, who scored the only goal at Northampton on the opening day of the campaign, found the net again as a substitute against the Robins to stake his claim for a return to the starting line-up.
However, Sam missed out as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury.
