BENJAMIN MENDY tweeted a response to Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City boss told him to "forget social media".

Mendy was part of the City team that beat Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva.

But Guardiola was unhappy with some of the World Cup-winning defender's positional work.

He said: "Mendy is Mendy. Sometimes we want to kill him and sometimes you think, 'Wow, what a player we have'.

"He gives us energy. Mendy has a lot of things to improve and hopefully we can convince him to forget a little bit the social media and improve a few things."

The French left-back saw the quotes on Twitter and responded, simply saying "Oops" with a nervous emoji. He then uploaded a photo of himself with Oasis legend Noel Gallagher.

Otherwise, Guardiola was thrilled by the champions start to the season.

He said: "Our performance was good but it is just the first step and we need to keep going."

Raheem Sterling had opened the scoring for the visitors with a tame strike from the edge of the area that beat Petr Cech.

And then Bernardo Silva added the second with a vicious effort that flew past the 36-year-old keeper.

City's next outing is against Huddersfield on Saturday - and Mendy may want to steer clear of his Twitter account until then.
