Dundee United held off a second-half fightback by Queen of the South to open their account for the season with a 2-1 victory.
After losing their opener to Dunfermline on home soil, United were rewarded for a dominant start at Palmerston Park on 15 minutes when Sam Stanton drove inside and fired the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.
Queens were left with a mountain to climb after Pavol Safranko got in behind and lobbed Alan Martin from a tight angle in the 27th minute.
The visitors came out firing after half-time and finally found a way past United goalkeeper Matej Rakovan midway through the second period as Stephen Dobbie volleyed home Kyle Jacobs’ cross at the back post.
The home side suffered a few late scares but saw out their first win of the campaign.
