News of Jose Mourinho's interest in the Bayern Munich and Germany international broke earlier this week.
But it has now emerged that Boateng has personally called the Red Devils boss and rejected a switch.
The news was revealed by SportBild journalist Christian Falk on social media.
He tweeted: "Jerome Boateng called Jose Mourinho to tell him personally that he is grateful for the interest, but he won't come to Manchester.
"No Transfer to @ManUtd."
Manchester United are desperate to sign a centre-back before the transfer deadline.
Mourinho will not have to turn his attentions elsewhere though.
The Red Devils have been linked with Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld, Leicester ace Harry Maguire and Barcelona's Yerry Mina.

But none of them will come cheap with United acting slowly in the transfer window.
The Red Devils have signed Brazil international Fred, young right-back Diogo Dalot and veteran goalkeeper Lee Grant.
United start their Premier League campaign against Leicester on Friday at 8pm.
And Mourinho will want to have signed a new central defender by the time the match comes around at Old Trafford.

Mourinho's current options are Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo.
United will hope to close the gap on Premier League champions Manchester City this season and challenge for the title.
