JOSE MOURINHO is worried about Manchester United's misfiring stars - but newcomer Fred has already found his Range.

The £52million midfielder had fans purring as he revved up for the season in a 2-1 win over Real Madrid last week.

And he has adapted just as quickly to the life of a Premier League superstar off the field,  popping to lunch in a £50,000 new Range Rover with United's fellow Brazilian Andreas Pereira.

Former Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred chose a luxury car in his new club's crimson-red colours.

But the 25-year-old and Pereira, 22, certainly dressed down for dinner.

Both were in caps and sporty clothes as they arrived at Piccolino Restaurant in Hale Village, Cheshire.

Fred's girlfriend looked far smarter, though, even sombre.

But even she wore trainers, albeit discreetly matching her black and white outfit.

On the pitch, Fred bought himself some time with Old Trafford fans by displaying plenty of Samba silkiness against Real.

But United signed off their warm-up games with a mediocre 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich on Sunday.

That left Mourinho warning of a "difficult season".

Apart from Fred, the ex-Chelsea chief has only brought in Portugal Under-21 right-back Diogo Dalot and third-choice keeper Lee Grant this summer

Mourinho told MUTV: "My CEO knows what I want and I still have a few days to wait and see what happens.

"The other clubs who compete with us are really strong and already have fantastic teams.

"Or they are investing massively like Liverpool, who are buying everything and everybody.

"If we don't make our team better it will be a difficult season for us."

Pereira has joined Fred in the senior squad - after being one of the few United players to enhance his reputation in pre-season following his term on loan at Valencia.

Perhaps that was one reason the Belgium-born Brazil Under-23 star looked so relaxed out for lunch with Fred.

And a taste of things to come, United will hope.
