A world power for years to come

After winning a World Cup it is hard to think that the best days are still to come, but that is exactly how it is for France after earning the second star on their famous blue shirt.

Didier Deschamps' side, who now sit atop the football world, threaten to reign for quite some time yet.

Although the cycle officially begun in Moscow, this is something that has been brewing. France were runners-up at their European Championship in 2016 and many of the current crop reigned at Under-20 level in Turkey in 2013.

The signs are ominous for the rest of the world and the near future could hold a cycle of French dominance.

A world power for years to come

France have won this World Cup with the youngest team of the tournament and the cherry on top of the icing on their cake is Kylian Mbappe, who, at 19, became the first teenager to net in the final since Pele.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's Ballon d'Or dominance has an ever-shortening expiration date and if their is anyone who looks likely to be the next to take the crown it is the Paris Saint-Germain forward, much to the probable annoyance of his club teammate Neymar.

Mbappe's strike partner, Antoine Griezmann, still has plenty of football left to play at 27 as well, meaning their partnership could yet fire France to more European success.

Of those who started in the final only Hugo Lloris, Blaise Matuidi and Olivier Giroud are over 30. Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez are just 22 and neither their central defensive partnership of Samuel Umtiti and Raphael Varane exceed 25.

N'Golo Kante must feel old in this company at 27 while one of their standout stars this summer, Paul Pogba, is still only 25.

The present is glorious and the future looks assured. The talent they have goes beyond those who started this summer as well, with Corentin Tolisso, Nabil Fekir, Thomas Lemar and Ousmane Dembele all waiting in the shadows.

Had they been any other nationality, Karim Benzema, Anthony Martial, Kingsley Coman, Adrien Rabiot, Aymeric Laporte and Clement Lenglet would surely have featured in Russia but Deschamps had the luxury of overlooking these stars and not feeling their absence for a second.

This Russian World Cup has ended by declaring France as World Champions and it seems as though their dominance is only just beginning.
