The midfielder enjoyed a stunning campaign last season as he captained Jurgen Klopp's side to the Champions League final, which they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid.

Henderson has continued his fine form into the World Cup and he starts again this afternoon as England take on Sweden for a place in the semi-final.

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of Liverpool's most essential players in recent years, firmly filling the void left by former skipper Steven Gerrard.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Barcelona are considering making a move for him as they seek reinforcements in midfield.

And according to Don Balon, a Spanish outlet famous for its outlandish transfer claims, Gerard Pique has urged the club to snap him up.

The report claims that the defender sees him as the ideal replacement for Paulinho, who looks to set to leave the club.

It's thought the Catalan giants are willing to pay €40m (£35m) to tempt him away.

Don Balon also claim that Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barca from Liverpool in January, has recommended the club sign Henderson.

Klopp will be desperate to hang on to the former Sunderland player but may be resigned to losing him after improving Liverpool's midfield this summer.

The Reds have already snapped up Fabinho and Naby Keita, while a deal for Nabil Fekir may still be on.

With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still to return from injury and the improved form of James Milner, Liverpool might consider cashing in on Henderson to raise funds for other new signings.
