Bale played for Wales in their China Cup friendlies against China and Uruguay

But injury problems forced him out of Wales' last couple of qualifying games and their fate was sealed by Ireland who won 1-0 in Cardiff to make the World Cup play-offs.

Bale, 28, said: He said: "It was a massive disappointment for all of us not to reach the World Cup having experienced the Euros, which was incredible.

"But normally if we do well in one campaign we die away in the next.

"We were right there until the end, so we have to take the positives.

"Losing and missing out on the World Cup makes us even more hungry to qualify next time."

Ryan Giggs has since taken over as the Dragons boss and is hoping to make another assault on the Euros in two years' time as the tournament gets set to take place around the continent.

Now, in a funny series of adverts for shopping website wish.com, six players with a collective valued of £258.3million take up a range of new hobbies to keep themselves busy while their team-mates compete in Russia.

Real Madrid star Bale orders a set of scissors and clippers and takes up hairdressing.

Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon buys a mixer and cake tins and tries his hand at baking.

Chile and Manchester City's Claudio Bravo orders a toy helicopter while American goalkeeper Tim Howard buys some decks and tries his hand at being a DJ.

Dutch international Robin van Persie offers up the most poignant advert.

His spectacular looping headed goal against Spain was the highlight of the last World Cup. In his advert he takes up topiary and carves an image of himself scoring the goal into a hedge.

A bored Pogba, inspired by the others, orders a dozen boxes to take up a new hobby.

Buffon said he learned a bit about baking on the shoot.

He said: "Working with this production was a lot of fun.

"The team are professional, creative and very smart.

"I actually learnt a few things."
