Farewell
As has been the talk of world football over the last month, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed on the 20th of April that he is set to bring his 22-year spell in charge of the capital outfit to an end this summer.

Candidates
Following on from the flood of tributes from players, managers and pundits alike, thanking Wenger for what he has done for the game and wishing him well with his future endeavours, the other big story in the English media has surrounded who could be set to replace the Frenchman in North London this summer.

The likes of Brendan Rodgers, Carlo Ancelotti, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Thomas Tuchel, Mikel Arteta, Luis Enrique and Max Allegri have all been touted as potential arrivals at the Emirates, with previous favourite Allegri having seemingly ruled himself out of the running for the job last Sunday night, after Juventus secured their 7th-straight Scudetto title and 4th-straight domestic double with a 0-0 draw at Roma.

'If they don't fire me, I see myself as staying at Juventus next year too', the Italian tactician explained during his post-match press conference.

Front-runner
As such, the last week saw the other hotly-tipped favourite to take over the reigns at the Emirates, in the form of Mikel Arteta, pushed as the clear front-runner to succeed Arsene Wenger in North London.

A recent report from the Independent even went as far as to claim that Arteta was so eager to make a return to the club, that he had 'already thought up plans for his backroom staff' at the Emirates.

MUNICH, GERMANY – MARCH 10: Arsene Wenger (R), manager of Arsenal FC and Mikel Arteta address the media during a press conference ahead of their UEFA Champions League round of sixteen second leg match against FC Bayern Muenchen at Allianz Arena on March 10, 2014 in Munich, Germany.

Done deal
However, a surprise report courtesy of Spanish outlet Marca yesterday evening claimed that Arsenal had in fact come to a definitive decision that Arteta would not be the man tasked with replacing Arsene Wenger, due to his lack of experience as a first-team manager.

The report went on to claim that the board at the Emirates were locked in negotiations with Unai Emery, who recently departed PSG, over becoming the new manager of the club.

And, as per a huge update from the ever-reliable David Ornstein in the hours that followed, Marca's sources were proven very much correct, amid news that Emery had clinched a deal to take his place on the bench at the Emirates next season.

'Proud to be part of the Arsenal family'
And, after follow-up reports emerged earlier today stating that Emery was set to be officially announced as the new Gunners' boss over the next couple of days, the Spanish tactician confirmed his imminent Arsenal appointment tonight with a graphic on his official website.
